weekending

I was in Springfield Friday and Saturday for the Illinois Public Defender Association meeting. It went well, if I do say so myself (I was on the committee that set it up, and moderated one of the panels). We had a good crowd, due in part, I'm sure, to the advent of Mandatory Continuing Legal Education. The dinner was good, and the honoree was a guy I used to work with who was just made a judge. He made a good, and not too long, speech, and then we all went to the Hospitality suite.

After the sessions on Saturday, I met up with my friend Sue, who lives in Springfield, and we had lunch at a bakery/lunch place in an old Victorian house. Then we wandered a bit, checked out a couple of shops, and she showed me her house. I had a nice, leisurely drive home.

Today I went over to the 57th Street Art Fair. It looked like it might rain, but it hasn't yet. The sun peeked out, and the temperature was moderate - all in all, a good day to hang around outside looking at art. I picked up a couple of blouse/jacket thingies out of a $10 bin, and bought a small pottery ikebana holder. I had some of Noodles, Etc.'s chicken satay for lunch, and, as I walked home, I encountered a young lady selling fresh baked cookies:

Little baker

(There are always scads of kids selling lemonade, iced tea, etc. on the Art Fair weekend. They make out like bandits.)

Stopped at both O'Gara & Wilson's and Powell's bookstores on the way home. Yes, of course, I did, what did you think?

I have just made a big ol' pitcher of raspberry iced tea. Yum.
