Pussycats: a Photographic Celebration

This is a little Hallmark gift book, consisting of photos of cats looking adorable and appropriate quotations. I bought it as a birthday gift for Caroline, but of course had to read it myself first. Favorite quotations: “Cats are like Baptists. They raise hell, but you can’t catch them at it.” And “A cat improves the garden wall in the sunshine, and the hearth in foul weather."

And it certainly looked like we were in for foul weather today. I was sitting at the computer, looked out the window, and the snow was really coming down. I had errands to run, so figured I’d better do them right away, as well as clearing the back stairs. It as very light snow, though piling up, so I swept the stairs, and went on my way. But the snow actually stopped shortly thereafter, and the sun came out, so it was a nice day after all.

It was a good thing I didn’t put off doing my Italian homework until this evening, as I’d thought of doing. As I did my esercizi, the word biblioteca appeared. Uh, oh, I have books due at the library! So off I went to avoid the overdue fines. Picked up a couple to read while I was there. They’ve finished the construction, too, which is nice; the main entrance is open again.

Got a fair bit accomplished today. Finished shopping for the January birthdays. It’s always hard for me to buy for the kids, since I don’t have a lot of experience in that regard. But I’m hoping Clare will like the lightning-bug flashlight I found for her (she’s 5); I must say, I almost bought one for myself!

Hallmark was having a clear-out of their Christmas stuff, so I had a browse, and found some rather elegant single-panel blank cards and envelopes (#10) that will be perfect for invitations for next year’s holiday party. They’re white, with silver dots like snow around the edges, and a silver and white abstract tree at the top. Very pretty. Now I just hope that, come November, I’ll remember that I have them! They’re going in the stationery drawer, though, so I’ll see them pretty often; that should help.

I packed up a bunch of books to send hither and yon. I hope the bookbox isn’t too expensive to mail; I hadn’t anticipated an out-of-the-country mailing on that, but, hey, that’s what m-bags are for, right? I'm hoping to get to the post office tomorrow or Monday. Probably Monday, as tomorrow is running up to Lake Villa for afternoon with the XYZingers and then dashing back to make a 7:30 curtain for Music of the Baroque.

Picked up a couple of DVDs to play around with on my new DVD player. There are way too many buttons on the remote control! I feel like I'll hit the wrong one, and it'll be my fault there are no pictures from Mars ;-)
