The weekend in pictures

My goal on Saturday was to go to the Blackstone Branch library booksale:

I came away with a fair number of books, but most are going to Panera Breads, to help stock their OBCZs. I'll drop them off on my way home from work tomorrow, along with a slew of others that I had lying around waiting to be released.

Later in the day, I went over to the Hyde Park Art Center:
ART

One year ago, they moved into a spanking new facility, and so they had a party. It started at noon on Saturday, and ended twenty-four hours later. In between, there were workshops, exhibits, food, and fun. They had a birthday cake shaped like a palette and a paintbrush. I really liked it. (Okay, that's not me, but I know how she felt!)

This morning, I got up earlier than usual to label some of the books I got yesterday. Then I went back over to the Art Center for their Gospel Brunch. Here's the brunch part:

Then I hopped a bus to the Art Institute. I had realized that an exhibit I wanted to see is closing in a couple of weeks, so, as it was a perfectly gorgeous day, I figured I'd go today. It's the Cézanne to Picasso: Ambroise Vollard, Patron of the Avant-Garde exhibit. Vollard dumped his law career to become an art dealer, and, boy, did he know what was good. From Cézanne to Picasso, indeed, and in between there were Van Gogh, Gauguin, Matisse, and quite a few others. The softcover of the catalogue was 1/3 off, so with my member discount, the price was affordable and so I got it.

While I was there, I stopped in at the Asian galleries, as I always do when I have time. There's an exhibit of Japanese tea wares, from the Edo period to modern times, with some lovely pieces. An exhibit of Islamic ceramics is there, too, but I was getting a bit tired, so, as it's up through October, I just took a sneak peak:
Perpetual Glory

Then I came home, read a book, and did a bunch of other boring stuff.

What a superb day you had.
Loved the wee girl with the plate. A new version of 'finger-licking good' I think.

Wasn't she adorable? I think one of my favorite things about that entire event was watching the little ones having a blast!
