The past few days

A couple of art openings -
I went to the Here Come the Brides show opening at Woman Made Gallery on Friday. Most of it was pretty good - I was especially taken by a couple of the photographs.
Thursday was the opening of Antonia Contro's Closed/Open at the Newberry. It's a bit of a change for them, as, except for the annual Calligraphy Collective Show, their exhibits are drawn from their collections. This was site-specific installation art; Contro chose pieces from the collections are drew on them for inspiration. Her new works, and the old, were shown together. I liked it a lot and hope the Newberry will keep breaking loose!
Yesterday, I saw John Adams' Nixon in China. So glad I have a subscription to Chicago Opera Theatre, because otherwise I might not have gone, and, gosh, I'm glad I did. The music is marvelous! And it only seems an odd subject for opera because we're so close, temporally, to the events. Good production, too.
I was supposed to have start a trial today, but one of the state's witnesses was sick, so they got a continuance. (I attribute this to the fact that I wore a skirt today. One of the assistant state's attorneys in my courtroom swears that if she has a jury trial scheduled and wears a skirt, it's guaranteed not to start when expected. But if she wears a pants suit, it proceeds on schedule.) So I got a bunch of paperwork done instead.
