Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria was wonderful! (But then, I'm a Monteverdi fan.) Tiny, tiny orchestra (a couple of harpsichords, a couple of theorbi, a gamba, a few violins and violas, etc.). It's very interesting, because there are no extant orchestral scores, just voice parts. So it's all guesswork, based on what's known of other contemporary secular performance work, theatre size and economics, etc. The stage design was minimalist, but done by the architect, Rafael Viñoly. The pit was Ulysses' ship! I liked it.
