Steppenwolf has just disappointed me, and so has Terrence McNally. I'm talking about Frankie & Johnny at the Clair de Lune. One of the friends I go with said it was better than the movie, so I'll not be renting the movie any time soon! The actors, Laurie Metcalf and Yasen Peyankov, are good actors; I've seen them both in other productions and liked their work. But they have no chemistry, the relationship is not believable. It is not, however, entirely their fault. The fact is that McNally has created in Johnny a character who is not only unlikeable, but who made my skin crawl. He's a potential stalker if ever I saw one, and when Frankie says at one point that she thought of calling the police, I thought, "If you don't now, you'll need to later"! If these two stay together, she's going to end up a battered spouse. Ugh.

I came home to find a birthday present from Cathy waiting for me. Not surprisingly, it's a book, James Lees-Milne's Ancestral Voices & Prophesying Peace: Diaries 1942 - 1945. A while back she had mentioned reading and liking it, and I had allowed as how it sounded interesting. So here it is! Just to show that Bookcrossers have nothing on my family, her card reads, in part, "Anyway, if you enjoy this one, I can send you lots more!".

Speaking of BC, it seems more changes are in the offing and they are looking for beta testers. Now if they'd just be more explicit about what they are testing and what they want the volunteers to do, I'd know whether or not I want to raise my hand!
