Aug. 6th, 2004 09:01 pmI went to the most delightful performance at the Chicago Cultural Center of two French operas, Genevieve of Brabant by Erik Satie (all of 12 minutes long!), and Ravel's L'Enfant et les Sortilèges. Preston Bradley Hall is not the best room in the world for opera, but it was enjoyable nonetheless. The main roles were taken by up-and-coming professionals and a couple of smaller roles and the chorus were the Gallery 37 Ars Musica Operatics Vocal Ensemble. (Gallery 37 is an arts apprentice program run by the City of Chicago.)
I just found out today that the Oak Park Public Library is having a book sale tonight and tomorrow, so I guess I head west tomorrow! When Joshua told me about it, he wasn't sure if it was all weekend or just tomorrow, but I checked and it's just tomorrow. Which means he won't be able to go, as it's the Sabbath. I'm going to try to get there relatively early, before all the good stuff is gone (if it didn't go tonight!).
