Yesterday, I was looking something up on the Seminary Co-op website, and it occurred to me that I hadn't looked at the Women & Children First website for a while (I know the connection isn't obvious - but they're both bookstores). So I looked, and discovered that there was an interesting book event scheduled for tonight.

The Courtesan's Arts )

So I went, and, naturally, bought the book. Of course, it was a super deal because there's a CD with it. (Excuses, excuses!) The program was excellent. There were actually five of the essayists there, representing interests in Mexico, Renaissance Italy, 20th-century Korea and 17th-century China. As you can imagine from that, the conversation was very wide-ranging. The CD contains a variety of pieces "exemplify[ing] the music-makng carried out by courtesans discussed in this volume", and samples of it were played.

I'm really glad I stumbled on this. I am now on W&CF's email list, so if I miss any more good programs, it'll be because of scheduling conflicts, not lack of knowledge. (I'm going to miss the Sarah Waters reading! It's the same night as my class -boo hoo!)
