Meme "defriending"

For some reason, every so often, a meme will screw up my friends page so that I can't see anything posted prior to a particular meme. In order to view anything properly, I have to "defriend" the person who posted the meme, and then "re-friend" them. I have no idea why this happens. Today it was that "LJ Book Review" meme, and the odd thing was that it was just one person's, not everyone's. This is annoying. The "reply", etc. links are gone, too, so I can't even comment and say, "hey, there's a problem here." Maybe if people put them behind a cut?
