It sometimes takes so little to amuse us! The other day, a woman was sentenced who had stolen around $16,000 by kiting checks among various brokerage accounts, and, when her case was up for trial, presented a forged letter to the court, purporting to be from a doctor, saying that she had to undergo chemotherapy. Now, no one is saying that she is a fine, upstanding human being. Nevertheless, it was the consensus of those of us hanging around the courtroom that the prosecutor went just a tad overboard when, at the end of his argument, he proclaimed that her actions had "threatened the downfall of this country's financial institutions and our court system". This immediately resulted in remarks like, "Ben Bernanke has just called a news conference to thank prosecutor KT for saving our economy", "Hey, the Dow just shot up!", "Guess we won't be needing that stimulus package", and the like.

Okay, maybe you had to be there. ;-))
