A Confederacy of Dunces is a rather lunatic comic novel set in New Orleans. People either love it or can't see what the fuss is about.

Shadow of the Wind involves a boy who is searching for books by a favorite author and finds that someone else is doing the same, and systematically destroying them. It's a wonderful book for booklovers! How's this for a first sentence? "I still remember the day my father took me to the Cemetery of Forgotten Books for the first time." Hooked me!
