Busman's Honeymoon, by Dorothy L. Sayers
A re-read, for the umpteenth time. I never get tired of Sayers, and this is one of the best (though Gaudy Night is THE best!). I just had the urge to read it again, so I did.
Other stuff
That DVD player may have been a mistake; I have been a frequent visitor to Blockbuster and Hollywood Video (which has a much better selection). I watched Pasolini's Medea, with Maria Callas, yesterday. Interesting stuff - very little dialog, striking costumes - I liked the differentiation of place through very subtle color changes - and the setting was amazing. I need to find out where it was filmed. I was also extremely pleased to discover how much of the Italian I could understand - perhaps not word-for-word, but definitely enough to get the sense of the dialog without paying attention to the subtitles. Class is paying off!
And speaking of Italian class, Daniella (our instructor) commented about Bush's appearance on "Meet the Press" yesterday that he "can't even speak his own language". She was really shocked that he said things like "if I was" instead of "if I were". Of course, most Americans will not have noticed, or, if they do, will not care.
Also watched the Grammy awards show last night, just to see Kurt for all of 30 seconds! He really should have won Best Jazz Vocal Album - but he was a "bridesmaid" once again.
