So our court clerk usually has mints and the like on her desk for us. Today she added Dove™ chocolates. Someone in the office made fudge (chocolate, peanut butter and Turtle™ varieties). And one of the guys in my Italian class just got back from Italy (Florence and Modena, where he was attending medical conferences. Why aren't my conferences in places like that? I get to go to programs in Chicago, Springfield, Urbana. It's not fair. But I digress . . .) and brought chocolate for the class. And, yes, I had some each time. I admit it. I'm easy.

In other things, I bought a bookcase (this one). I actually have two like it already. I wasn't planning to buy a bookcase, but, mirabile dictu, there was NO traffic coming into the city and I got to class way early. As there's a Pier One down the block, I decided to go browse and saw that these shelves were on sale. Took me all of about 30 seconds to decide to pick one up.

The woman in the State's Attorney's office who is in charge of their restitution division has been arrested and charged with embezzlement. They say she was forging checks on the restitution account, due to a gambling addiction. Embarrassing for Birkett (the SA), who's running for Lieutenant-Governor (couldn't happen to a nicer guy). I guess any probation violation petitions alleging non-payment of restitiution are now a bit up in the air!

OH MY GAWD Mojosomom...THANK YOU

All this time I have been marvelling at the commericals for this soap and thinking..."It can't be that good..why would women go gaga for it?" when al along it was probably DOVE chocholate they were talking about. Who knew ?

Or was it that the chocholate tastes like soap? You get overeat and have your mouth washed out with soap all in one treat ? My bad.

I like the office you work in...sounds like people are nice to each other ! If you have yet to go to Florence you must save and go one day. I so think of you as a Florentine type woman...for that matter anywhere in Tuscany seems to suit my mental image of you !

But is seems you had a lucky day...chocolate, fudge, and boocases on sale. Slip out and grab me a lottery ticket would you ?

So sad about the restitution lady. Gambling is such a devastating addiction.

"Gambling is such a devastating addiction."

A bit like LJ or BookCrossing.

MJM, I can understand why you'd want to buy more of those shelves. Elegant and beautiful - like yourself.

I'm betting that it would be a treat to browse through your shelves. I'm also betting that it wouldn't be row after row of Tom Clancy and John Grisham neither.

Safe bet, O-B?

That would be pretty safe money Peter !

From a look at her BC shelf I think variety, depth, humour, ceativity, and spirit would be the recurring themes. And if you pulled a few volumes out and looked at what was tucked behind them....the odd thing just for th efun of it !

Anywhere near close MJM?

You'd probably find more books! Yes, I've double-shelved in places, hence the need for more bookcases.

;-))

I forgot to mention that as I was headed out to my car in the morning, I found a $10 bill lying on the sidewalk, lonely and forlorn. So I gave it a home in my wallet.

I could give you the BIGGEST virtual hug!

Thank you for posting about the bookcase. I'd never have known about the sale, as I usually don't shop at Pier 1. I'm going to use the rest of my birthday money to pick up 3 of my own tomorrow (I've been needing them for well over a year now, yesterday's haul notwithstanding). I am going to assume that there's no assembly required, so my DH cannot complain on that count (as he usually does when thwarting my efforts to organize).

No assembly required!

They also have a six-tier shelf, and a corner shelf. Have fun shopping!

And...

Hi MJM,
I came into your current page via the Rizogalo recipe and am anxious to try that. Sounds truly delicious.
I was interested to read of you buying more bookshelves. My initial reason for joining bookcrossing was to make space for fresh books on our overladen shelves. Foiled! It wasn't long before I bought a nice new one to go alongside my bed. Yesterday I ordered 3 small three-shelf ones to fit neatly and possibly unobtrusively along one wall in our entrance way. Once the piles on the floor are set in place I expect the piles on the floor will start to accumulate again.
Did someone say addiction?
