Last night, I went to a presentation by pop-up gods Robert Sabuda and Matthew Reinhart. Shawn Sheehy from the Center for Book and Paper Arts was supposed to be moderating, and I ran into him in the lobby beforehand. He was all nervous about it, but in the end it wasn't necessary, as Sabuda & Reinhart have done this lots and had their presentation all prepared. Shawn did a bit of directing Q&A at the end, and I think stunned them a bit with his academic/book arts perspective. Grabbed a bite to eat afterwards with
ottawabill (who released a couple of books at the venue). The waitress tried to con us both into dessert but we resisted.
Today, I met up with Bill,
tzurriz and
jfroebe for brunch. Yummy lemon-ricotta pancakes for me, and how something so light and fluffy can be so filling, I don't know, but I could only manage about half. As the place we ate at was only a couple of blocks from the library, I went there afterwards to return a couple of books. While I was at it, I took a peek at their sale room, which had apparently just been stocked, and picked up a couple of things. Checked out a couple of other things while I was at it.
Tonight, I went to Symphony Center. Every year, there's a "Day of Music", free concerts of all kinds throughout the day. (I released Music and Silence while I was there; it seemed appropriate! Patricia Barber was doing a program of excerpts from her most recent work, Mythologies, based on Ovid's Metamorphoses. She was fabulous, as usual. I treated myself to a smoked salmon pita pizza at the Rhapsody Restaurant bar afterwards.
I took James' The Aspern Papers to read on the bus, and now I'm almost done with it.
