Niki in the Garden - street stenciling
I went to the Garfield Park Conservatory this morning, to see the Niki in the Garden exhibit of monstrous huge sculptures by Niki De St. Phalle. They are amazing! You start out just seeing a big, whimsical-looking person or animal,
Nikigator closeup and then you look closer and see incredible details, like this: La Cabeza - detail with millefiore.

I went a bit crazy taking photographs, not just the sculptures, but flowers and foliage. You can see them all here if you like.

I also found a birthday present for my sister, a cuff bracelet made from vegetable parchment fused to copper, in lovely gold/orange/copper colors.

Then I came home and accomplished much. Cleaned floors, paid bills, did my Italian homework, and had a very nice dinner.

Oooh! I'm so glad you went to see that--she's a real favorite of mine. Her detailing is indeed marvelous. Sounds like a lovely day all around!

what a cool exhibit! I love that's in a garden, too--somehow it makes works of art seem so much more accessible, when they're in a context other than a museum.

A couple of years ago, the Conservatory did a similar show with glass sculpture by Dale Chihuly (although that was entirely inside the building, for obvious reasons). It was stunning. I went a couple of times, during the day and again in the evening, and it was like seeing two entirely different shows.

I've never heard of Niki De St. Phalle but it looks like exactly the sort of exhibition I would thoroughly enjoy.

Such amazing sculpture! Thanks for taking us along.

And I can just imagine you in your hat and gloves! It really is a perfect style for you.

Great news on your recovered and working client, by the way. You have every right to be proud. And that scandal, sadly, doesn't surprise me much. When I was a cop, the worst drunks I ever saw were us leaving a party under the bridge. (not one of my prouder moments).

How wonderful to attend and comprehend a lecture in your new language! When's the trip to Venice?

The trip to Venice was in February! If you look at my Flickr site, you'll see scads of pictures. It was tremendous fun, and I can't wait to go back.

Oh, I like Niki De St. Phalle. Have you been to the Centre Pompidu in Paris? There's a fountain there with her sculptures...

I love Niki De St.Phalle as well, saw her sculptures in Paris as well. And when the "Federal Art Hall" (Bundeskunsthalle) opened in Bonn (the former federal capital before moving to Berlin after the fall of the wall), they opened with tarot sculptures by Niki de St.Phalle on the roof, which was fascinating.
