So this morning I decided to open Cathy's present. I opened the outer box, and there was this gorgeously wrapped gift, I could barely bring myself to open it! But this furry little "helper" insisted, so I did. Surprisingly, it was a book! (Judith Martin's No Vulgar Hotel, a book about Venice which I have read, but which has been on my wish list.) She also sent me one of those bags that folds up really tiny so you can shove it in your luggage and then fill it up with stuff when you're travelling.
I stopped at a farmer's market on the way to work to buy myself flowers for my desk, and at a nearby store bought bagels to share with the office. My courtroom partner took me to lunch, along with another attorney whose birthday was a couple of days ago. We ate a lot, but that's what you're supposed to do on your birthday, right?
This evening I went to a program at our branch library, a painting conservator talking about our murals, as well as some technical conservation stuff. It was very interesting, and the president of the branch Friends of the Library was there, so maybe something will get started to restore the murals.

It sounds as if you had a lovely day.
My last birthday was on a "work day" and I was away from home with my team. I wasn't too happy as I'd planned to take the day off and treat myself, however they made it very special.
