mojosmom: (Librarian books)
Here I am, an old lady of 64, and I have lots of homework.

My Italian lit class resumes on Friday morning, so I have about 30 pages of Margaret Mazzantini's Venuto al mondo to read before then.

I have also signed up to volunteer with the Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust, so tonight I start interpreter training at Robie House. This is seven sessions, and there's mucho reading.

So this morning I found myself in the school supply section of Office Depot buying a notebook. It wasn't weird to buy a notebook. But it was weird to be buying "school supplies"!

Last night, I went to a reading of Dustin Lance Black's 8, taken almost entirely from the transcripts of the federal district court trial in the case of Perry V. Schwarzenegger, which challenged California's Proposition 8 that banned same-sex marriage. After the performance, there was a post-show discussion, which included, among others, one of the plaintiffs in that case and one of the sponsors of the same-sex marriage bill that's pending in the Illinois legislature.

The program asks that we share the link to a recording of the LA première of 8, so here it is. Forward away!
