Some sad news.

mojosmomI've just heard from my sister that our cousin Eva has been diagnosed with cancer of the liver. She is quite elderly (our parents' generation, not ours - she must be close to 90) and has had bouts of cancer and a variety of other ailments before. I think I need to find a weekend when I can drive over to Indiana to see her. She's been in a nursing home there for a while now.
And I've also learned that there is to be a memorial service Thursday for a judge I used to appear before in Lake County. He later went on the Appellate bench. He was a great guy - decent judge, marvelous sense of humor, no arrogance (unlike some I could mention). I'll never forget one bar association event, held shortly after an election day, when the local State's Attorney was going around shaking hands and slapping backs. Harry just said, "Oh, sit down, Fred, the election's over!" He was noted for his love of flying hot air balloons and playing the bagpipes. So I'm changing my plans for Thursday evening and am going to pay my respects.
