Helen Sclair, known to everyone as "The Cemetery Lady", is now resting in a place she knew very well. She was also a fixture at the Newberry Library Book Sale's Chicago & Collectibles Room. Here's an appreciation from the Book Fair Blogger and an obit from the Chicago Tribune.
I went to Jim & Kevin's holiday party Saturday night and had a wonderful time, as usual. Our friend Jamie didn't come, as he is in the Antipodes, enjoying summer. I ate a bit too much, as usual, but limited myself to two glasses of wine. But I really need to watch it, as the pounds are creeping up. It's hard to behave in that department this time of year! I met the architect who did the apartment when the guys moved there several years ago. It was a gut rehab, and he did an amazing job! It was nice to be able to praise him to his face. he's an artist.
Well, this was fun! Sometimes, you need a push to make you sit down and just read. Because I often have multiple books going, it's not unusual for me to have some lying around that are just thiiissss close to being finished. So I finished three yesterday, and read four others. It was a very pleasant way to spend the day.
