mojosmomMagnificent production of Don Giovanni at Lyric tonight. It is without doubt high on my list of favorite operas, so I'm picky. Bryn Terfel as the Don, Karita Mattila as Donna Anna, Susan Graham as Donna Elvira, Kurt Streit a glorious Don Ottavio, Ildebrando d'Arcangelo as Leporello. A new production, very simple set, good lighting. Eric was the recitative accompanist and wrote some program notes about that. Just Jamie and me for dinner, the others had changed their tickets because of a conflict. We went to Costas' in Greektown and I introduced Jamie to galactobouriko (a favorite of mine). Talked politics, natch.
I have received an invitation to the unveiling of the dreidel stamp! I guess it's because I'm a member of the Spertus Institute, where the unveiling is happening. I don't think I'll go, though. It's at noon next Friday, and I'd have to go all the way to the other side of the Loop. I'm not so impatient that I can't wait until the next time I go to the Post Office to see it!
