There go my Saturdays . . .

five of them, anyway.
I've just signed up for
Letterpress I
Saturdays, May 13—June 10, 11—4
Go ahead. Live in the past. You know you want to. The past is cozier, slower, more predictable. All the bad stuff in the past has already happened, and none of it happened to you. So go ahead and enjoy the nice things: the beautiful gowns, the strange food made with lard, the odd kitchen appliances. And while you’re luxuriating in the sepia toned photographs and the handmade doilies, why not sign up for Letterpress I? Unlike many obsolete technologies, letterpress hasn’t vanished. Letterpress has been seized upon by artists, and has been transformed into a 21st Century art-making medium. There’s a letterpress resurrection going on, and you can be part of it. In Letterpress I, you will learn type setting by hand, locking up, Vandercook press basics, how to print on Chandler and Price platen presses, Xerox transfers, ink modification; you will also learn about paper as a receptacle for printing. And you can pretend that it’s 1900, or 1848, or 1452; we’re cool with that. Just don’t get ink on your lace cuffs.
I've wanted to take this class for quite a while, but it was always offered on a weeknight when I had a conflict. So when I saw Saturday, I signed up immediately! I'm a bit worried though; this sort of thing can be very addictive. ;-))
